How To Organize an Eco-Friendly Move

On October 2, 2021, Posted by , In Moving tips, With No Comments

During the process of relocation, many plastic bags, moving boxes, tape, and all kinds of wraps are thrown away hurting the environment. If you are the kind of person that cares about our planet, and you want it to be healthy and clean, we have some green tips for you. Here’s how to organize an eco-friendly move when you’re packing for the relocation. You may think that this would be a hard thing to do. But in reality, just a few small and quick changes can make all the difference to keeping the planet a greener place. You’ll just need to add a few things to your moving checklist.

Declutter and clean your home wisely

A time when you’re getting ready to move is the perfect period for decluttering your home. This means getting rid of all the things that you no longer need or use. It will help you to lower your moving costs, and you’ll have much more space in your new home when you arrive at it. However, don’t just throw everything in the same bin.

If you want to organize an eco-friendly move you have to declutter smartly.

That way, you’re hurting the environment. Instead, try to do it the green fashion. When selecting the items that you want to throw away check them and see if you can do any of the following things with them.

Things that you can do with items that you don’t need

    • Recycle – All the plastic packaging, shampoo bottles, bags, etc. Everything can be recycled. If something is broken and you don’t want it anymore, check if that thing can be recycled instead of throwing it away.
    • Sell – Organize a garage sale and sell anything that you no longer need, but someone can still use it. If you’re unable to do that, you can always try to sell your things online.
    • Donate – When you want to organize an eco-friendly move there’s nothing that will keep your heart warm as donating your items. Give things that you don’t need to charity or someone else who needs them.

Pack your things in an eco-friendly manner

The biggest problem for the environment occurs when you spend too much on packing materials. The even bigger problem is when you throw everything away after use. Try to get as many environmentally friendly materials as you can.

Those include cardboard boxes that can be used up to seven times say the professionals from moving.com. You can also find packing peanuts and wraps that are made out of recycled materials and that have a less harmful effect on nature. Of course, you don’t have to buy everything that you need for packing. You can use towels, blankets, and pillows to protect your belongings.

Try to find plastic bins for moving. You can use them a lot of times and you can use them as storing containers later on.

Don’t make many trips and hire a green moving company

When you’re trying to organize an eco-friendly move it’s better to rent a bigger truck and move all your things in one trip than making multiple trips to transport everything. You’ll use less fuel and reduce gas emissions. Some moving companies offer environmentally friendly moving options. So be sure to look them up.
